Stephanie Joyce, a club mentor and very experienced yogi/meditator, led our session today and we were very fortunate to have her. She performed a gong bath, led us through a 15 minute yoga exercise, and also taught us about the chakras.
Above is a picture of her beautiful gong. The gong is one of the oldest therapeutic instruments, and is used in yoga and meditation as a tool to reduce stress and break up emotional blockages. Sound has a tremendous influence over human functionality, and it causes a rhythm in our body that touches us and influences our emotions.
There are 7 chakras that exist within our bodies, and act as energy centers in which our energy flows.
1. Root Chakra
The foundation and feeling of being grounded.
2. Sacral Chakra
Lower abdomen. Our connection and ability to accept others and new experiences.
3. Solar Plexus Chakra
Located in the upper abdomen area of stomach. Represents our ability to be confident and in-control of our lives.
4. Heart Chakra
Represents our ability to love.
5. Throat Chakra
Represents our ability to communicate.
6. Third Eye Chakra
Located on our forehead between the eyes. Represents our ability to focus on and see the big picture.
7. Crown Chakra
The highest chakra that represents our ability to fully connect spiritually.
